The isLayerof property.

This ternary property defines a layer as a part of some multilayered entity, typically an organ wall. In addition, it gives the relative position of this layer within this entity: this is performed on a radial axis, the first layer being central and the next ones being external to each preceeding layer.

A layer is defined on the basis of histological criteria. One or more portions of tissue are the constituting parts of a layer. Each layer may itself be divided in a set of sublayers.

Formally, a layer is defined by the value of the coordinate of the intersection of its external surface with the radial axis. The set of all layers of the multilayered entity makes a total partition of it. In a model representation, this coordinate is a constant, but in reality it is functionaly dependant of the other axis and time, because a layer is able of elastic deformation and peristaltic movements.
